Plank Inspiration {Vertical versus horizontal}

Hello sweet friends!

How was your week? I hope it was a lovely one for each of you! :)

SO...I was wondering...do you remember my "wide plank dilemma" that I wrote about a couple of posts ago? I just couldn't decide between vertical or horizontal to save my life!

Well...

After hauling this home:

And considering this:

I have finally and resolutely decided on this:

I first saw this picture from Southern Living while visiting the beautiful blog, Cappuccino Cottage.

I am crazy obsessed with this style of wider horizontal planks, if you must know! I want to slap these planks up on every available wall surface in our home! ;)

This picture is IT. By "it" I mean, I found the picture that showed me exactly which way I wanted to run the planks and how wide!

Do you ever find it hard to find a picture that screams what you want to do exactly? This one is pretty close.

{I think.} ;)

Now for some other "plank inspiration":

The above picture is not exactly my style, but just look at those gorgeous plank walls!

And some bedrooms that do not have plank walls, but are so pretty nonetheless, I still had to include them here:

And I saved this one for last because it is just that gorgeous! See that sweet gray painted table peeking out of the corner? Simply lovely!

So, it's horizontal all the way for the master bedroom! Which would you choose for your home?

I hope you all have a beautiful weekend! Thank you so much for stopping by!

Blessings,

Jenni

  3. Hi Jenni!

I'm so happy that you've decided to go with the horizontal planks. That was my preference but either way it would have looked beautiful. I'll have to try and copy/paste the picture that I saw with horizontal planks. These are amazing inspirational photos. You have me dreaming of plank walls, now. Can't wait to see the room!

Have a lovely weekend with your crew!
    Hugs,
    ~Michelle :)

  5. Jennie!
I am sooooo! with you girl!
I would plank every wall in my place if I did not have to sell it within a couple of years!

But the next one Hee, he he!!! I am going all out with planking!

We did my moms walls and they look great! all done on pine boards! she wanted them stained I want all of my room painted!

I sooo! Love the open stud walls where you see the sheeting and the 2x4 studs exposed! it is soo old cottage shed looking, or beach cottage, rustic French farmhouse as well!

I did a room with T-1 eleven on the walls I sanded the ruff down with a belt saneder and it went up like panneling. I use dry wall screws and screwed it into the studs, and then painted it a creamy white, I loved it when I got all the decor on the walls and the simple look of it! it looks like outdoor siding yet cheep and easy to hang, It really looked great!

In fact the couple that bought my last home fell in love and wished I had done all the other rooms.
She put her husband to work adding to the look!

I cannot wait to see the outcome of your room/ rooms :)

  6. Gah! That loft one with the the sheers and the dark hardwood floors... Wow!! I may have to build a loft just so I can have that room. ;) Ok, I'm ambitious, but maybe not THAT ambitious.

I'm excited to see your room!

    Aloha,

  7. I just love all of those rooms but the last one looks soooo dreamy.... I need bedroom inspiration at the moment too! I am not quite sure what I want to do in my master bedroom yet!
Last weekend we stayed with friends down the coast and they have big wide horizontal boards in their cottage. I lay in the guest room, looking up at the boards and thought to myself I should take a picture for Jenni, I wonder if she has decided what she is going to do yet?! Then I thought I better not in case you decided on vertical!!!! I think you made a great choice, can't wait to see what it looks like! X

  11. Ohh I'm going through the same thing right now! We (by that I totally mean me...and then I finally convinced my husband) decided it would be a great idea to do a accent wall in our bedroom with planks. Then began the great debate...horizontal, vertical, what to use and so on. I'm super excited though because I made a trip to the local restore and they have some of the same stuff you bought, but it's in 4.5 inch by 8ft strips for .70 cents each 8ft strip. Now I just have to convince the husband that this is the way to go. We also considered barnwood (free) 1 by pine boards and mdf. So far this restore solution may be the most cost effective and easiest! Thanks for the inspiration pictures!

  12. I'm with you~horizontal! I love the wider planks, too! I'd do every room in my house if the budget allowed. Walls, ceiling...even floors!

    I LOVE your inspiration room!
