Hello friends!
{I hope you are having a lovely day so far!}
Have you ever heard of Lavender Water?
My mother-in-law made some for me a few years back, and I loved it! So I wanted to try my hand at it!
Lavender Water is wonderful when used to iron household linens. I am told it is especially lovely when used to iron bed sheets and pillow cases. Now I will confess that I don't iron my sheets! I prefer the tousled, rumpled look...Well no, actually I don't, but it sounds better and less lazy that way, don't you think? :)
So do you want to know what else I do with this lovely smelling lavender water?
I spray it in the bedrooms, in the bathrooms.
I spray it on the pillow cases, and this is especially nice to do after putting on freshly laundered {albeit unironed} ones!
The list of ingredients for this delightful concoction are few, and the directions easy-peasy!
Lavender Water
2 cups distilled water
1 oz. (2 tablespoons) vodka or rubbing alcohol
1/2 teaspoon lavender oil
Now, I used 3/4 teaspoon lavender oil, because I wanted it to be slightly stronger, but you may want to test it with 1/2 first before adding more, just in case!
Add each of these to a pretty spray bottle, and shake gently to mix. Spray on anything you please and enjoy!
Also, here is a sneak peek of the plank wall in the master bedroom:
The one plank wall is finished, except for the last row on top, which I will do after doing the plank ceiling. I thought it might be a good idea to see the way the ceiling and one plank wall actually looked together, before going ahead with the two adjacent walls! I might change my mind and think it is too much. :) Today David and I are going to mark the ceiling with the chalk line, and tomorrow I will begin installing the planks! (Yea!) I am very excited to see how the room will look sans popcorn ceiling! ;)
Also, I am sorry about the slightly blurry pictures today! I was having trouble getting really sharp ones for some reason. Maybe it is the dark and dreary weather?
I hope you have a wonderful day and thank you for stopping by!
Blessings to you~
Jenni
The lavender water sounds wonderful! Do you know if the vodka could be substituted with rubbing alcohol?
ReplyDeleteI was so happy to see that someone else was thinking about interior plank walls! Looking forward to seeing the end result!!
Sharon, I did a little research and found that yes, you can substitute rubbing alcohol for the vodka. I am so glad to know it! My mother-in-law gave me the vodka leftover from when she made lavender water, so that is how I avoided buying it! ;) Thank you for the great idea! I will put this bit of info into this post!
ReplyDeleteI don't think there is a fragrance better than lavender. I can't wait to make this, Jenni! Thanks for the recipe.
ReplyDeleteYou are so funny... I don't think I'd have time to iron my sheets. Usually, just put them on right out of the dryer. Not lazy... we like the natural look :)
Your plank wall looks amazing! I can't wait to see it all put together. Good luck, tonight!
Hugs,
~Michelle ...if your neck starts to hurt, just remind yourself of how great they will look.
Oooh, it sounds wonderful. I bet it would work with rose or lemon,to. Looks like a stop at the natural food store is in order.
ReplyDeleteJenni, love that you posted lavender water, and the walls planked are coming along, I will be waiting to see the room with all the treasures added to it :)
ReplyDeleteHurry girl!! don't keep us waiting, we are way to excited to see the finished art!
xoxo

Fantastic! I can't wait to give this a try. We live in the Midwest, so our house gets quite stale in the spring when it's too cold to open windows, but not so much to have the furnace running. This will be the next best thing to opening the windows! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteOoh I am loving the wall so far!! YEAH!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love lavender water as well. I spray some that I purchased on my pillow every night and I love to smell it as I go to sleep. I will have to try your recipe, thank you.
Enjoy your weekend sweetie!!
hugs to you!
XO
I have all the ingredients for some of that lavender spray so I am definitely giving it a go! I am also loving your plank preview!
ReplyDeletePS .. I never iron sheets or pillowcases and it horrifies my best friend... but I can't seem spend time on ironing... there's always too much else to do! X
I am so excited about this spray Jenni, I love me some lavender!!! I was going to comment the other day, but all I can say is Blogger.
ReplyDeleteYour wall is looking gorgeous and I cannot wait to see how it turns out!!!!
The idea of the Lavender water sounds wonderful. I will definitely need to give this a try.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recipe for lavender water Jenni. I love this idea of using it for spraying my linens.
ReplyDeleteYour purple tulips are just beautiful. My favorite flower!
Blessings,
Marcia
Jenni, I love your tulips in the blue mason jar! I can't wait to see your bedroom with the charming plank walls. Thanks for sharing the lavender water recipe too.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by my blog :) Have a great week!
xoxo
Amanda
Thanks for the recipe, I'm so anxious to try it!
ReplyDeleteHey Jenni!
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to stop by and thank you for your kind words on my blog! I really admire your spirit and your ability to make me feel like my blog is something special even though you have hundreds of followers you still make sure I feel like I am the only one!
The plank walls are looking FAB!! Can't wait to see the finished product!
Jess
I'm going to have to make me some lavender water... it sounds devine! Can't wait to see what your room looks like!
ReplyDeleteGreat read! Is there any way that real lavender can be utilized? I've got a big bush of it and was hoping to make lavender water with some of it.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Colleen
Why distilled water? Can't I use just regular tap water?
ReplyDeleteTo {The Mom}:
ReplyDeleteThe reason for the distilled water is that most tap water has chlorine in it, and this will ruin the essential oil {of lavender or what ever essential oil used} that you put into the spray. I hope this is helpful! :)
I found this on Pinterest! I made it today and absolutely LOVE it!! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI too love lavender! The plank wall looks very nice. If you find that the plank ceiling is a bit too much planking, you might want to look into the punched metal tile ceilings or even bead and board. The old farm house I lived in when I first married had the bead and board and I loved it.
ReplyDeleteLove your lavender water! I use it every time I iron now. Thanks for the post! I found it originally on pinterest and then wrote about it on my blog.

What is the purpose of the vodka or rubbing alcohol?
ReplyDeleteI have a question...where do you buy lavender oil?
ReplyDeleteKim, you can find lavender oil, and many other essential oils, at Super Supplements. We have a natural products store here that sells them, and you may have one close to you! You might also check out Whole Foods, if you've one nearby! :) I hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day! :)
Blessings,
Jenni
Jackie, the purpose of the rubbing alcohol or vodka is that it acts as an emulsifying agent. It will mix the water and essential oils you add, lavender or whatever other oil you'd like to add! :) I hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI love lavender!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI always find buying store bought ones so expensive > <
This is such a great idea!
I have lavender in my herb garden. Is there a way to use that to make the spray. I grew it but now have no idea what to do with it. I tied some in a ribbon and hung it in my closet but I don't smell a thing! I'd love to use it to make the lavender spray..
ReplyDeleteGreat idea..and i will make that lavender...really so useful for many purposes!
ReplyDeleteI have dried lavender flowers ...I would love to use that...is there a way of doing it with flowers instead of the oil? Thanks for this recipe looks really nice and refreshing!
