Seriously.
My husband and I have been living in a construction site since April, also known as our master bedroom.
The plank ceiling has been done since June, minus some caulking.
And while we are on the topic of our plank ceiling, I must confess I am not completely happy with how it turned out. True, I did it by myself, and had never, ever done something like it before. {And sometimes I am quite sure I will never do something like it again!}
My husband says it looks really good, and the thing is, he means it. But I keep pointing out all the imperfections...and I think, in all honesty, those flaws have kind of discouraged me so much I haven't felt like finishing the room. Weird, huh?
Now, the plank wall turned out just as I'd hoped when I redid it this summer, but I do want to trim it out before showing you!
And the faux fireplace...ah, my husband completed it and attached it to the wall over a month ago, but have I shown it to you? Uh, no. But it is only half sanded. I don't think you'd want to see it quite yet! :)
I think I am in a kind of home improvement slump. Isn't this where the Decor SWAT team comes and arrests me for taking the longest time ever to redo a room?
Okay, I am saying it here, out loud and for anyone to hear.
This has to change.
No more fretting about ceiling imperfections. No more delaying and procrastinating. I will caulk the ceiling. I will trim the plank wall. And I definitely will sand the fireplace.
So, in the spirit of this proclamation, I am buying the Annie Sloan chalk paint needed to finish the fireplace. Imagine dreamy Pure White paint on the fireplace and Paloma inside the fireplace. {Paloma is gray, with a slightly lavender hue to it.}
AND this weekend, my husband is removing the outlet that is smack dab in the center of our little fireplace, rewiring it to a different place on the wall!
Between these two things and some encouraging words from David, I think I'm ready to roll up my sleeves and get working!
And if you are still reading this, you are amazing! Thank you for letting me ramble here for a bit, and as always, thank you for taking the time to stop by! :)
I hope you have a beautiful Friday!
Blessings,
Jenni

Okay, I am going to cheer you on! Go girl go! You can do it!!
ReplyDeleteDon't you worry about imperfections, aren't we all imperfect and God loves us anyway? You just embrace those little imperfections and smile.
Thank you, Amy, for your encouragement! :)
ReplyDeleteHang in there, Jenni! The final details are always the hardest part, but you are almost there and I can't wait to see your bedroom reveal :) I just ordered the pure white chalk paint for a hutch I am redoing. The pure white is going to be gorgeous with the Paloma in your fireplace.

Hi Jenni, oh my goodness I'm so glad you lead me to you blog. I've been looking around at everything you've done and let me tell you girl, you are absolutely AMAZING! Everything looks gorgeous, you are way too hard on yourself, I know how you feel tho, I'm the same way. No matter how wonderful a transformation looks your eye goes to that 'one' spot that is less than perfect. We need to work on that don't we? So get to sanding, caulking and whatever else you want to finish and sit back and enjoy it, imperfections and all.

ReplyDeleteI am excited to see it in all its grace!
The imperfections you talk about welcome them girl! our biggest mistakes turn out to be our best work, not that we can't create something better...Not at all what I mean, but mistakes and less then perfect is the charm in what we live with, adding the best history to a rooms PERFECTLY IMPERFECT!!!

Thank you so much, each of you, for your words of encouragement! It means a lot, and helps me feel a lot more confident and motivated to finish! :)
ReplyDeleteWell, from one procrastinator to another, I cannot wait to see what you have done. I am SOOOO looking forward to seeing this room because I KNOW it will be amazing and it will ROCK my world, AND it will inspire me as your work always does!!!! By the way, someone recently told me to be kind to myself, so I am passing on those words of wisdom! Be kind to yourself sweet one!
ReplyDeleteGo for it! Don't worry... (says the worrier) I am learning to let go of imperfections... so you should join me! We seem to be more critical of our own work than others would ever be! I understand the lull in the work though, sometimes you just need a break to gain perspective and recharge! Sounds like you are ready to roll now so good luck and enjoy!!!! Hugs from me, dear friend!!!! X
ReplyDeleteJenni, I am so curious now! Do hurry on the fireplace, I totally want to see this makeover!!! You're doing some major changes and its going to look GREAT!!!
